Amanda Potter for SD State House – District 9
Common-sense leadership for strong communities
I’m running for the District 9 House seat because we deserve a representative who leads for all of us — not just a narrow set of interests. I want to represent the farms, families, and neighborhoods that make our district strong and vibrant.
About Me
Longtime community leader
Experienced communicator and strategist
Advocate for families, education, and responsible budgeting
I moved to South Dakota in 2005 to get my master’s degree from Sioux Falls Seminary, never expecting to stay after graduation. But I fell in love with Sioux Falls and its people.
More than 20 years later, here I am: raising a son, working in healthcare, and giving back to the community that became my home. My work as an educator, in the nonprofit sector, and as a leader in the corporate world has given me a broad foundation of real-world experience and a clear-eyed, common-sense approach to getting things done.
I’m ready to fight for the priorities that matter to all our families: strong schools, safe communities, and wise investments in our future.
Priorities for District 9
-
Empowering Strong Schools
Our school districts need strong state partnership and the freedom for educators to do what they’re trained to do, without political overreach.
As a former high school English teacher and the mother of a school-aged child, I care deeply about ensuring our schools have what they need to prepare the next generation of leaders.
-
Building Thriving Communities
We all want communities that are safe, affordable, healthy, and rich with opportunity.
Building that kind of future requires strong partnerships across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors — and a representative who can work across differences to get things done.
-
Supporting Working Families
I’m lucky to have found a strong village in Sioux Falls to surround my family with support and love. But I know not every family has that same support system.
Affordable childcare is a necessity, not a luxury. Working families deserve policies that help them thrive.
